Synonyms: direct current
While most of us know the term DC from the physics lessons long time ago, it gained some importance in the new present. The batteries of electric cars run fully on direct current – our energy grid transports alternating current (AC). To connect the two, a current conversion is required. In case of fast chargers, this conversion happens in the charging device and not in the car. The rather big charging stations have enough room for powerful energy conversion electronics. Therefor it is possible to draw higher currents from these DC-chargers and thus charge the cars much faster than with most AC-chargers.
